Social Media Intensive for Writers

Who: Writers! This is for you. If you find Social Media overwhelming, a waste of time, or have been unsuccessful in building your community of readers, then you have come to the right place. You have probably been told by your agent, publisher, writing community, or the teenagers in your life that you need to be on social media in order to sell your books. And they are right. But there is a difference in being “on social media,” and strategically using social media.

If you have $30 and 90 days, Kathryn McClatchy can teach you how to efficiently leverage social media to find your fans, get social with the folks who will buy your books, and do it in less than 30 minutes per day.

What: In this 12-week course, you will be in a small group so you can learn together by practicing new techniques, critiquing each other’s efforts, engaging on social media, and encouraging each other while being held accountable to stay the course. Topics covered will include: Profile Bios, Hashtags, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Canva/graphics, content calendar, scheduling apps, analytics, and more.

When: Registration is March 15 – March 28 (or when the 48 spots are filled). Week Zero starts Monday, March 29, and will focus on getting everyone situated with the format and technology. The 12-week course runs from April 5 – June 27. It will be taught asynchronously –you can work through the material/assignments when you choose, as long as the week’s activities are complete by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. CDT. Every Monday, the week’s lesson, approximately 30 minutes, will be taught by Kathryn via video, and assignments/activities for the week will be posted. Kathryn will have two weekly “office hours” via Zoom on Tuesday 2 – 4 p.m. and Thursday 8 – 10 pm (all times are Central Daylight Time), so you can drop in and ask questions or get extra coaching. Allow approximately 4 – 5 hours per week to learn, practice, and create new habits.

Where: Most of our interaction will happen in Slack and Zoom. Once registered, you will receive an e-mail confirmation. On March 29 you will receive an invite to your Slack workspace and meet your group. No worries if you aren’t familiar with Slack. If you can manage email and Facebook, you have all the skills required, and Kathryn will walk you through how we will use it during Week Zero. (Your welcome letter will also include links to YouTube tutorials to get you started on Slack.) You will also be posting to Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter. If you don’t already have accounts set up, that will be part of your assignment during the weeks dedicated to those platforms.

Why: We know it takes a minimum of 30-days to create new habits. This course is designed to teach you best practices, how to engage on social media, and to develop those habits in an encouraging group. This way you will not only practice your new skills, but have other writers learning with you, a coach available to answer your questions, and peers holding you accountable to succeed.

How: If this sounds like what you need, and you have the time to commit for the entire 90 days, your next step is to email KathrynMcClatchy@gmail.com. Put “Q2 SM Intensive” in the subject line, and ask for the PayPal registration link. This course will max out at 48 writers –first come, first served. If the course fills, your name will be added to a waiting list.
