About

Children are often asked what they want to be when they grow up. Depending on my age, I responded a doctor, a teacher, a lawyer, or a business woman. My secret dream that I hid deep within me, however, was to be like the rich gentlemen in Victorian novels who spent their days reading and studying whatever they wanted, writing books, and discussing and debating new ideas.

I never shared that dream because it wasn’t realistic. I needed to pursue a career and have a family. My past now includes careers in newspaper, advertising and market research, water fitness and coaching competitive swim teams, and teaching high school and college English. My present includes a wonderful husband and two sons, a service dog, and learning to function in my “new normal” as a stroke survivor.

Being a stroke survivor changed my life plan, since I can no longer pursue my teaching career or dreams of a PhD. After stroke rehabilitation, I had to figure out what my future holds. Then that secret dream peeked out of its hiding place deep within me. I realized that I will never be a wealthy, landed, Victorian gentleman, but now there is nothing to stop me from spending as much time as I can reading and studying whatever I want, writing whatever I want, and discussing and debating new ideas.

So after four major career changes–with the support and encouragement of my family, friends, and service dog Gizmo–I am Unleashing the Next Chapter of my life focusing on my literary passions. I have published newspaper and magazine articles and presented academic papers in the past, but my Next Chapter is about writing and publishing books, and teaching what I’m passionate about. I invite you to join me on this journey as I write stories and articles about all that intrigues and inspires me.
